Sandwich Bites Again !

After five years of resting the sandwich competition has been resurrected - held this year to mark the 250th anniversary of the origin of the sandwich legend.

The sandwich as an item of food was named after the 4th Earl of Sandwich John Montegu.

The 2012 winner in the professional caterers class, chosen by the 11th Earl of Sandwich John Montegu, was Jeanette Todd of the Market Inn

'Sandwich Bites' Food Festivals

In 2006 and 2007 similar sandwich competitions celebrated the sandwich during the 'Sandwich Bites' Food Festivals organised by Carolyn Illsley and Jenny Wilkie.

In 2006 the winner, chosen by 'Master Chef' winner, Peter Bayless, was Dominic of the New Inn Delf Street, Sandwich, with his Beef on Rye with pickle.

The 2007 winner, chosen by the Mayor of Sandwich, was Emily McGrath of 'All Things Nice', with her 'Delicious Bites' sandwich.
