The Sandwich – Sonsbeck Twinning Association was formed in 1984. Since then annual visits have taken place between people from both towns over a long weekend. Rather than staying in hotels, members stay with families, enjoying a taste of each country's hospitality, learning something of each other's language and culture and generally enjoying a social occasion. Some of the founder members have remained in contact with friends they made during their first visit some 32 years ago..
During the annual get-togethers, there is always a traditional match of Bat and Trap (the ancient Kent pub game) at which members from each town compete for the coveted trophy. The afternoon event is followed by an evening meal with entertainment.
Visits also include trips to nearby places of interest from, in the case of Sonsbeck, the impressive Roman museum at Xanten, to the lively old town of Dusseldorf and the City of Cologne.
Additionally, throughout the year the Sandwich-Sonsbeck Twinning Association holds regular social events.
New members are always most welcome.
If you are interested in joining the Twinning Association simply turn up at one of our regular events advertised around the town.
