Hi Jane, Lyn, Trevor and anyone else that might remember - hope you're all keeping well. Going back to the '64 '65 era, does anyone remember the Kent Messenger 50 mile walks? One started from Dover to Maidstone via Canterbury and Ashford, the others from Dreamland car park in Margate also to Maidstone. I along with some friends attempted 3. The first time getting as far as Canterbury. The second one, actually reaching Maidstone after 18.5 hours and plenty of blisters. Third time only to Ashford. There must have been around 1,000 or more people. If only sponsorship had been around then, we'd have made loads of money for various charities. I've still got my certificate - anyone else remember?

| I see jane has her recipe for gypsy tart which i was gong to post, other reply mentioned the big sliding doors which were pulled open at lunchtimes to accomodate school dinners. Everyone loved gypsy tart but my pet hates were semolina and butter beans tho' not together of course. I was a dinner monitor and myself and chris butcher got 3d each per week to wipe up the big aluminium canisters and trays that the food came in from the sec school. we seemed to spend it quickly in the corner shop each friday and had lots of friends for a while.

1 farrthingate Cottages Hello everyone! Greetings from Germany where I have lived for the past 28 years. I am writing in the hope that someone will be able to help me. I lost my father, Laurie Gooch over 18 years ago and my mother Margaret 4 years ago. On looking through my Dad's army records, I noticed that he once lived at the above address. It must have been around the 2nd World War time. I know that he was previously married and there was a son in that marriage called Lloyd Gooch, but I don't actually know if he was my fathers son or not. Can anyone remember the Gooch family? I have no idea what my fathers first wife was called. I only know that he had previously been married and now it seems from the records that he had lived in Sandwich. He was with the Royal Engineers in the Para Sqn. I guess I am just interested in knowing if Dads first wife and her son did OK in their lives. Maybe I will be lucky and someone will remember them or indeed know them. I would appreciate any help. The full address which I have on the army papers is: 1 farrthingate Cottages, Eastry, Nr. Sandwich, Kent. I hope someone can help me. Very Best Wishes, Leona Gooch-Hatton
