Hi to all folks in Sandwich and those expatriots, like myself, spread around the world. Wishing you all the best for the new year. An earlier saga discussed in these pages refered to the old radar station near Mashborough. The saga continued for quite a while involving many people.I was back in Sandwich for xmas 2001 and took the opportunity to walk, with my wife, from the Ringlemere end through the park past the lower entrance to the tunnels. To my dismay the path through the park was a mere fenced off corridor, with rather large and loud dogs patroling. So after travelling from N.Z. I was unable to relive my youth and have another adventure in the tunnels. It was good walking the old streets again, even if there were very few familiar faces.Nice to see that one of the old ton up boys from the old Trapezium cafe is now mayor of Sandwich. Well done Joe.

I am descended from an ancient Hastings
family and Worthing Familys amongst others so I am interested in this area of perfidious Albion. I have read that the Cinque Ports took the side of the French in one internal struggle.
As I understand these ports were the foundation of the Royal Navy and were prominent in many Wars and struggles.
I also understand they are a proud stiff necked people who value their freedom and their ancient rights and privileges. God bless them they were and are a beautiful people who need recognition for their steadfastness
as the coal face of England, bordering that Goliath, Europe.
