Hello,
(second time because i made a mistake and placed it as a reply, sorry for that, colin)
Seventeen years ago i visited Deal and Sandwich and while walking the ancient highway to Sandwich found an old sign that said: on this spot august the 25th 1782 Mary Baxter, spinster, aged 23 years was murdered by Martin Lash, foreigner, who was executed for the same.
(I made a photograph of it)
Three years ago i went back and to find it again. Is it gone? And who can tell me anyting about it? I am really intrigued.
greetings, Sigrid

Dave Rudd from Sheppey
Hi Dave - I will repost this as the Wood Ash thread has dropped to 2nd page
Do you know if you are related to William Rudd who used to live in the Old Fountain Pub building (next to Mermaids locker ) early 1900s - and are you at all related to the Castles who are current residents ??

Does any one know Angela Finnis? She was probably at Sandwich Primary school
mid to late 60s. She lived in the houses next to the level crossing on the Woodnesborough Rd on the Moat Sole side.Like to get in touch with her.

Am hoping that someone may be able to help me. I am looking for any info on William Wallis (my grandfather) who was Landlord at Ship Inn, Ash and then Bell Hotel, Sandwich until his retirment in 1975. I know he lived in rented accommodation until 1980 at 11 Mill Green, Eastry. He then became a Chelsea Pensioner until his death in 1981. Any info/pictures links to people/family would be very much appreciated - William Wallis left my grandmother in 1936 and no trace was ever found of him until today when I received his Chelsea Pensioner record. We are really keen to fill the gaps.

Well to all those who attended the day has been and gone, personally I thought it was a brilliant turnout and a fantastic evening amongst some true friends of old.
I refer of course to the Sandwich County Secondary School Reunion of the years 61 65 66 & 67 which was held on Saturday 12th May 2007 at the Kings Arms Hotel in Sandwich.
Twenty Five people enjoyed each others company for several hours reminiscing over old times and what we had each been up to for the last 40!!! odd years. Personally the evening went far to quick, but as they say when your enjoying yourself time flies.
I was heartened to hear people asking when are we doing this again. So if you did not attend the reunion and would like to be included I shall be organizing another in say two years time. To join this elite club you will need to have attended Sandwich Secondary during the 60's and contact me, we have an encrypted web page with all the information and pictures of the event, so if you attended the school during the 60's please get in touch and join in the nostalgia and the odd beer.
Thank you again to all those who attended it was really great.
Names of who attended are: Rob Adlum, Liz Andrews, Nick Axon, Frances Rossetter Daughter of Mr J.B. Rossetter RI teacher, Richard Baxter & Wife, Sheila Gambrill, Mick Law & wife Sue, Jeannette Lilliott, Clifford Lilliott, Master of Ceremonies Roy Neale, Tom Parsons, Tony Relf, Susan King, David Rudd, Sandra Simmonds & Husband John, Peter Sweet, Eddie Thompson, Betty Uden, Heather Giles, John Durban and myself.
By pure chance on checking out of the Kings Arms on Sunday morning I was introduced to Mr. Mike Hopper who is the son of Mr. R Hopper the Deputy Head and Math's teacher during my time from 61 to 66, they where in Sandwich for a family wedding and just happened to be staying in the Kings Arms, it just shows you what a small world it has become.
Kind regards

SANWICH MYSTERY>I have been thinking as to if i should send this or not for sometime but as the years are passing me maybe i should...we was about 9 years old and our sunday school teacher,Miss Spicket told us a story, she lived opposite the alms houses and one day we went to visit her and what iam about to tell was our secret for many years.
she told us if we stood at a certain place at the other side of the bridge and looked towards the fisher gate the blocks in the quey would line and there was some things that was hidden from some invaders from many hundreds of years ago,.
we thought she was just a silly old bat but when we looked into it and found the stone, after climbing down some steps we could not remove the stone so we left it.
Some days later we was in St barts and removed one of the steel barb wire stakes from the wall so that we could use it to remove tje morter from the block in the quay wall,we did this and we found a leather scroll and what i now know as a pewter cup, then as we was about to remove the things the toll bridge guy see us and told us to B..ger off,we replaced the stone and we never tried to find it again,is there any mates out there that was with me to confirm this,..or has anyone found it since, this is true, colin

I am trying to trace the family of a late Ash resident, Jane Alllen (or Allan?) who I knew in the late 70s. Jane ran a wonderful resource called the Human Potential Workshiop, which I first encountered when I reported on it as a journalist on the East Kent Mercury. I know that Jane died, sadly, but I would love to share memories of her with her family. She had a husband, a son, whose name was James and, i think, a daughter. Any update or contact information would be gratefully received. Jane was a woman ahead of her time, and I would have loved another conversation with her.
best wishes to all.
