Old Inns & Pubs of Sandwich: Past and Present

In the past, inns were not only used by travellers and local residents for entertainment, but as official meeting places.

The dates given in the pub descriptions are when the buildings were recorded as public houses, in many cases the buildings are much older.

yellowIndicates pubs around in the 1600's - the surviving buildings now have different uses (usually private dwellings)

orangeIndicates that the pub is still in use today,

Kings Arms over 100 years ago

There have always been many pubs in Sandwich so we have had to be selective by necessity!

The pubs included are only those that were around in the 1600's and whose buildings still survive today - so many pubs established after that date may not be included - apologies!

Please click on the pub names on the left for more information and/or photographs.
