By Road:
It's a fairly direct journey on the motorway from London, but be prepared for heavy traffic on the M25 ring road. See map and AA route planner link on right
The route is dual carriageway through to Sandwich using the M2 - A299. Alternatively the M20 past the Channel Tunnel entrance near Folkestone - past the Port of Dover entrance follow the signs to Sandwich.
By Bus:
There is a National Express Coach to Canterbury from Victoria Coach Station, London (You usually have to book a seat) See link on right. The 'buses from Canterbury to Sandwich run regularly (you do not have to book).Timetable information is available from Stagecoach - East Kent "Local Buses" - see link on right.
By Rail:
Sandwich from London - St. Pancras (high speed approx 1hour 30 minutes)
Alternatively
There is a train from Charing Cross station in Central London that goes to Sandwich every hour.
The journey can take approximately 2 hours as there are quite a few stations on the way.
Also please note, that after arriving at Ashford, the train travels to Folkestone, Dover and Deal and other stations before arriving at Sandwich, but you do not have to change trains. See link on right for timetables.
By Air:
International Air Travel:
Kent's closest large international airport is Gatwick where you can hire a car on arrival, then take the M25 and M20 or M2 to be in the heart of the county in just 45 minutes. Heathrow and Stansted also offer easy access to Kent via the M25 and M11 motorways. Alternatively, you can catch the frequent Gatwick Express train direct to London's Victoria Station (30 minutes).
Gatwick 79 miles to Sandwich - by Car
Follow the exit signs and join the M23. Leave the M23 at Junction 8 for the M25. On the M25, exit on Junction 5 with M26. From the M26 take the M20. Leave at Junction 7 and take the A249 for about 6 miles. Join the M2. Heathrow 105 miles to Sandwich - by Car
